PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (WLNE) — Escobar Farm is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its two-mile-long corn maze. The maze, which sends visitors through a two-mile route over eight and a half acres of cornfields, helps bring in revenue to keep the dairy farm open. “The corn maze is important to the farm because it helps us keep the dairy farm running” Escobar Farm owner, Jane Escobar said. “Right now, dairying in the northeast and all over the country, is a really tough business to be in because the milk prices haven’t kept up with the prices of everything electricity, fertilizer, oil… wages.” The money raised from the maze feeds the cattle, which help feed Rhode Island. “With the maze we get more money that can actually be funneled into keeping the dairy farm running,” Escobar said. In addition to the corn maze, the local farm offers a cow train and hayrides. “It gives you the community feeling. I grew up in the city, and I think it’s wonderful to see people come out and enjoy our work. It’s a freedom some don’t have,” Escobar said. The Escobar Farm Corn Maze is open Friday through Sunday during the fall season, and tickets are sold for $10. Categories: News, Rhode Island
