PRINCETON JCT. — When the bracket came out for the Colonial Valley Conference Tournament, the West Windsor-Plainsboro South girls soccer team wasn’t expecting a quarterfinal home game. Then came a stunning upset in the first round when Ewing beat Robbinsville. Well, the fifth-seeded Pirates made the most of that home match and advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over the 13th-seeded Blue Devils on Monday night. “They just beat Robbinsville, who we were able to tie, and we looked at them as such a big challenge, so playing (Ewing) after had our attention,” South coach Elisa Mastroianni said. “We played them last week, but we knew we couldn’t just come in and play the same way. They had a bunch of good chances and their goal was super good so we couldn’t come in and just act like we could win this and go on to the next one.” The Pirates (9-3-2) led 3-0 by the midway point of the second half thanks to a pair of goals from Maya Montemayor and one by Riley Duguay. The dynamic duo has combined for 32 goals, with Duguay, a freshman, scoring a CVC-best 17 and Montemayor adding 15. South plays top-seeded Hopewell Valley in Wednesday’s semifinals. “It’s been a huge jump from the last two years,” said junior center back Deana Hu. “It’s really great to be on a team that has a more winning culture. I’m just hoping that we continue that into the next game.” Ewing (4-13) got a goal on a free kick from Landen Jovolos in the second half to make it 3-1 and goalkeeper Emily Gamboa Ordini stopped nine shots to keep it close. Notre Dame 4, PDS 1 LAWRENCE TWP. — Four different players scored as the second-seeded Irish (12-4-1) put together a huge second-half performance to tame the seventh-seeded Panthers (7-8-1). Ashton Robbins, Riley Cunningham, Molly Snee and Reagan O’Mara were the goal scorers as Notre Dame won its 11th straight game and set up a semifinal against Allentown. Cunningham also had a pair of assists and Leah Zeidman made four saves for ND. Mackenzie Brodel scored off a feed from Sophia Vriesendorp in the first half as the two teams went to the intermission on level terms at 1-all. Shelby Ruf had seven saves.
