Photo by Ron Jenkins/Getty Images Chris Christie called Dan Campbell ‘classless’ for beating up on the Cowboys. Campbell had the best possible response on Monday. Last week after the Detroit Lions clobbered the Dallas Cowboys to the tune of 47-9, former New Jersey governor Chris Christie went to sports talk radio to complain. Christie, a Cowboys fan, thought the Lions went over-the-top with their conduct, still running trick plays against Dallas while up four scores. In particular, he seemed to have beef with coach Dan Campbell himself. “That’s Dan Campbell. He’s got no class. Never has.” Christie said. “So, it’s fine. Dan Campbell, that’s the way he is, and what goes around, comes around. There’ll be a time when the worm is turned.” On Monday, Campbell was finally asked about the incident, and not only did Campbell take the high road and not directly respond to Christie, he delivered an epic line that will go down as one of the best Campbell-isms. “The last time someone called me classless, I was drinking wine out of a bottle,” Campbell said. “But, no, I’m not worried about it.” And that was it. No shot back at Christie. No defending of his conduct against the Cowboys. And to be quite honest, that’s as much of a response as Christie deserves for his ridiculous comments. The Lions were right to continue to pour it on the Cowboys through three quarters to ensure there was no comeback, and when the game was clearly over, they pulled their starters from the game. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Campbell clarified at the end of his press conference that it was red wine, not white.
