FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Monday morning looks different for families in Fort Wayne Community Schools-- specifically at North Side High School. Following a tragic shooting Saturday night that left one student dead and 10 others injured, questions are swirling, with many families wondering how to safely move forward. Roderick Parker, a father and advocate in the community, organized a gathering to welcome students back to school Monday. One FWCS student dead, 10 injured after shooting at high school party on Fort Wayne’s northeast side "It was placed on my heart to try to gather some men and try to make our presence felt, let these young people know that we're here for them, we're here with them, that we understand them and that we love them," Parker said. The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday at a high school-age party in a neighborhood off Stellhorn Road. Authorities have not yet identified the victim who was killed. The others involved were said to have non-life-threatening injuries. Information about any suspects has not been released. The support group stood outside North Side throughout the morning, waving to students as they arrived at school, giving the occasional fist bump and having conversations with families as they dropped off their kids. "Let's take everything and use it as a positive influence if we can," said Shannon Hill, a parent in the group of greeters. "They need to see that," he said, pointing toward the students. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Fort Wayne Police at 260-427-1201, Crime Stoppers, or use the anonymous P3 Tips app. "We can solve it in another manner," Parker said of the violence. "We have to love each other. If this continues to happen, we're going to skip a generation, we're going to lose a generation of our young people, and we can't afford that. We need our young people." Krista Stockman, director of communication and marketing for the school district, said support for students and families is available through school counselors along with additional resources.
