GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - That police-led motorcade that many Packers fans may have seen rolling around Lambeau on Sunday carried a special guest. Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance made his first-ever visit to Lambeau Field, stopping at Kroll's West and a private tailgate party at a home near the field. "Today I want us all to say 'Go Pack, Go Trump'' with all these Packers fans on board and that's how we're going to win it," Vance told a crowd of supporters during a four-minute speech at the tailgate party. Many Packers fans said they were thrilled to see the vice presidential candidate at Lambeau. "I put off my flight to DC so I could be here to see JD Vance because I believe what he's doing is the right thing for this country," said Katherine Dahlke from Two Rivers. "It's my one opportunity to see him before he becomes vice president of the United States." "They're going to cut costs, we're going to have a closed border, we're going to restore law and order and end the endless wars in the Middle East and Europe," said Dixon Wolfe when asked why he believes the Trump/Vance ticket is the right choice for Wisconsin. Fan code of conduct violations leads to 5 ejections, 2 arrests during Packers vs. Texans Vance served up beers at Kroll's West asking the large crowd in the restaurant where they were from and asking them to cheer if they were going to vote for Trump/Vance this November. At the tailgate house, Vance told supporters to "use every tool in our disposal to go out there and vote" including utilizing early voting and voting by mail. It's a shift in strategy for Republicans after Trump often demonized mail-in and early voting ahead of the 2020 election. "We know the Democrats are going to do everything they can," said Vance. "They're going to knock on every door, they're going to make every phone call and they're going to try to squeeze as much as they can so we have to play that game too." While Vance had plenty of supporters at Lambeau on Sunday, there were also many people who wanted nothing to do with him. One of those people was Kristin Lyerly who is running for Wisconsin's 8th Congressional District. "It's a distraction, we're here to watch the Packers," she said about Vance's visit. "The folks in Green Bay aren't interested in talking politics right now. They're interested in making sure the Packers have a win today." She said that the Trump/Vance ticket isn't right for Northeast Wisconsinites. "When I think about JD Vance I think about hypocrisy," said Lyerly. "I think of the things he says so smoothly but is there truth behind his words." A spokesperson for Tony Wied, Lyerly's opponent for the 8th Congressional District, released a statement saying "it was great to welcome JD Vance to Green Bay. WI-08 voters are tired of high prices, open borders, and chaos around the world and are ready to see real leadership in Washington." 45-yard field goal as time expires lifts Packers over Texans in back-and-forth battle, 24-22 Northeast Wisconsin has become one of the focal points of presidential campaigning this week. Earlier this week, Kamala Harris held a rally at the Resch Expo. Tim Walz was in Green Bay on Monday and his campaign stop here included a tour of Lambeau Field. At Lambeau Field on Sunday, Vance admitted that he's a long-suffering Cincinnati Bengals fan but that he's always liked the Packers. He said he was a Brett Favre fan and would root for the Packers against the Houston Texans on Sunday. "I hope this helps him realize that he's going to win Wisconsin and make him more encouraged," said Wolfe when asked what he hopes Vance takes away from his visit to Green Bay. "Understanding that Wisconsin people are down to earth, people who support each other and we have great team spirit," said Dahlke when asked the same question. "This country needs a shakeup, a wake up, whatever you want to call it and these two (Trump/Vance) are going to do it," said John Koester from Allouez. After finishing up his visit to Green Bay, Vance and his team hopped on a plane and headed to Waukesha for an event with Catholic voters. "JD Vance doesn’t represent Green Bay values, and his photo op at a tailgate isn’t fooling anyone. As Trump becomes increasingly unhinged and unstable, Vance is parachuting in to push their extreme Project 2025 agenda to raise costs on middle-class families and rip away our rights and freedoms," the Wisconsin Democratic Coordinated Campaign said in a statement. Vance also made a stop at Hotel Northland although media wasn't allowed to attend. His campaign staff wouldn't say who he was meeting at the hotel.
