MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man is charged with murder following a deadly shooting at a senior living facility in the Medical District. Marquez Boyd, 27, was arrested on Sunday and charged with Second Degree Murder and Reckless Endangerment in connection to a shooting at Memphis Towers on Friday morning. His mugshot has not been released. Woman killed in shooting at senior apartments, man detained According to police, Boyd shot his girlfriend to death during an argument but he claims it was done in self-defense. The woman has not been identified, but reports say she was shot multiple times and pronounced dead on the scene. Boyd reportedly told Memphis Police that they were involved in a verbal altercation which turned physical when the victim hit him with a cane. He says she then grabbed a knife and pulled his hair. A neighbor told police that she heard the woman yelling and cussing, then five shots rang out and everything went quiet. MPD says the victim was found without a weapon, and a bullet was found inside the neighbor's apartment where it came through the wall and hit her dresser while she was inside. Reports say Boyd was taken to Methodist Hospital in non-critical condition. Hospital staff told investigators that they did not see any injuries on Boyd that were consistent with a physical altercation. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
