ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An operation to tackle a problem property ended in an officer-involved shooting. The Tewa Lodge used to be a local gem, but lately, it's been developing a poor reputation. The motel is located at Central and Alvarado Drive, but it's becoming a magnet for crime. CABQ Planning Department Director Alan Varela explained the site was continuously dirty with exposed wires and feces. The city's code enforcement was contacted by the owner of the lodge to ask for help to address the issues at the property, even saying he was threatened, and visitors weren't paying within the proper time frame. The city has decided to shut the lodge down and help those who are staying there find new housing.
