FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Pacific Gas and Electric is monitoring a potential wind event that could force the utility to shut power off in parts of the Central Valley from noon on Thursday and as late as midday Saturday. As of Thursday morning, the potential shutoff is expected to affect approximately 28,000 customers across PG&E's service area. The Central Valley counties that could see Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) action include: Fresno County (1,151 customers affected) Madera County (2,901 customers affected) Mariposa County (640 customers affected) Merced County (27 customers affected) PG&E says the duration and extent of power outages will depend on the weather in each area and not all customers will be affected for the entire period. The Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) are generally called following a high wind forecast, low humidity levels and dry material on the ground. Customers can look up their address online to find out if their location is being monitored for the potential safety shutoff at www.pge.com/pspsupdates.
