HPD arrests 16 hikers attempting to access Haiku Stairs

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Honolulu Police Department took to social media to announce they arrested a total of 16 individuals for attempting to access Haiku Stairs.

HPD said at around 6: 40 a.m., the individuals were arrested on second-degree trespassing charges after climbing a fence to illegally access the steps.

They were booked at the Kailua and Kaneohe Police Stations with bail set at $50.

HPD warned that violators of the restricted area face up to a $1,000 fine and 30 days of imprisonment.
