SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - American International College (AIC) has announced that they will be launching a new nutrition program next year. Crews work to repair water main break in downtown Springfield According to AIC, their new Bachelor of Science in Nutrition program is designed to prepare students to address global health challenges and will begin fall of 2025, with an introductory nutrition course to be available for current students in the spring semester starting January 2025. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that employment of dietitians and nutritionists is projected to grow by 7% from 2023 to 2033, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Approximately 6,100 job openings are expected due to workforce turnover and expanding services. This program will combine online and on-campus coursework and will be a pathway for students to pursue a master’s degree required for the ACEND Registered Dietitian certification. There will be two tracks that students can choose from, such as Public Health or Exercise Science, which offers education in nutrition, food, and health while providing students with the skills needed for careers in nutrition, dietetics, public health, or wellness coaching. The Bachelor of Science in Nutrition is designed to inspire a passion for health and well-being while preparing students for impactful careers in nutrition and related fields, according to Dean of the School of Health Sciences Karen Rousseau, PhD, RN. “At AIC, we recognize the struggles with food insecurity faced by members in our community,” said Rousseau. “This program will prepare graduates to work directly with food banks, shelters, and local governments to address the root causes of hunger. Additionally, our students will learn about improving access to nutritious food for underserved populations in our region.” Local News Headlines MassHealth, SNAP recipients to receive discounted utility bills National Fossil Day: Where to see fossils in western Massachusetts New Bedford man wins $20,000 a month for 10 years on instant ticket Goldberg seeking new chair as lawmakers mull CCC changes WWLP-22News, an NBC affiliate, began broadcasting in March 1953 to provide local news, network, syndicated, and local programming to western Massachusetts.
