LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A student at Tates Creek High School is recovering after a light fixture fell on her during gym class on Friday, according to a letter sent out by the school’s principal. The letter states the incident occurred when a ball struck the fixture. The student was immediately taken to the hospital; however, her current condition has not been disclosed. Following the incident, school staff and maintenance have initiated an examination of the gym area. All classes and activities typically held in the gym have been relocated until it is deemed safe, according to principal. The school emphasized that their foremost priority is the safety and well-being of the students and staff, as well as providing support to the injured student and her family during this time. Statement from Fayette County Public Schools – “Maintaining safety on all FCPS campuses and in all of our buildings is a priority We have been in touch with and are closely monitoring the recovery of the injured TCHS student. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their family. There was a swift response made by our campus administrators and maintenance teams.
