(WCIV) — Democrat U.S. Rep. James Clyburn doubled down on his harsh rebuke of Project 2025, a conservative policy agenda initially linked to allies of Donald Trump and drafted by the Heritage Foundation. Clyburn (D, S.C.-06), on CNN’s State of the Union, likened the policy platform to the racial oppression of Black Americans experienced throughout the 20th century in the United States. “We will expect Project 2025 to be a full-blown policy in his administration,” Clyburn said to CNN’s Dana Bash Sunday. “And what will that policy be? … It will be Jim Crow 2.0.”   Clyburn on CNN says Trump implementing Project 2025 would result in “Jim Crow 2.0” pic.twitter.com/ILdpBimIvx — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) October 13, 2024 Clyburn continued:“If you look at Project 2025, it will be Jim Crow 2.0, and I am amazed at the number of people who actually are interested in contrasting that.” This isn’t the first time Clyburn has likened the conservative policy agenda to a new form of racial oppression. During the Democrat National Convention, Clyburn, the ninth Black lawmaker to be elected to Congress from South Carolina– the first in nearly 100 years, drew comparisons to Project 2025 and the Jim Crow South. “While Trump falsely pleads ignorance of Project 2025,” Clyburn said in August, “which, in my opinion, is Jim Crow 2.0, Kamala [Harris] has been offering the American people inviting proposals and visionary leadership.” Trump has sought to distance himself from the 900-page policy wish list for the next Republican president. He has often disavowed the document, stating he has “nothing to do with Project 2025.” According to reports, dozens of former Trump administration officials have contributed to the Heritage Foundation’s proposals. The Heritage Foundation is a prominent right-wing think tank. Its policy wishlists for Republican administrations date back to 1981 when Ronald Reagan was about to assume office. The document calls for the following: Restore the family as the centerpiece of American life, dismantle the administrative state, defend the nation’s sovereignty and borders, and secure God-given individual rights to live freely. The policy proposals in the project are seen as widely unpopular by the American electorate, and Democrats have continued to tie Trump to it despite his attempts to distance himself. Clyburn’s comments come after the representative expressed “concern” regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ wavering support among Black men. A recent New York Times poll found 70 percent of Black men support Harris’ candidacy, down from 85 percent who backed President Joe Biden in 2020. “I met with Black men,” Clyburn said. “We had very frank and direct discussions. I don’t see and feel what I am reading about in news reports. Yes, Black men, like everybody else, want to know exactly what I can expect from a Harris administration. I have been very direct with them. I have also contrasted that with what they can expect from a Trump administration.” Former President Barack Obama also addressed these concerns on Thursday, Oct. 10, claiming Black men are “coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses” not to support Harris’ candidacy. In response to the concerns, Harris released an economic plan Monday specifically geared toward Black men that includesproviding forgivable business loans for Black entrepreneurs, creating more apprenticeships and studying sickle cell and other diseases that disproportionately affect African American men. Harris has also called for the legalization of marijuana and working to ensure that Black men have opportunities to participate as a “national cannabis industry takes shape.” Categories: News
