(KRON) -- Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is addressing reports her office had to throw out a thousand misdemeanor cases because her office missed the deadline to file charges. Price says her office has missed the deadline to file cases due to a backlog she knew nothing about. "It is not a process that was or a problem that was disclosed to me when I came into this office," Price said. Woman alleges Diddy violently ‘gang raped’ her in Orinda as form of ‘payback’ Price says it was in April of last year when one of her assistant DAs discovered a backlog of domestic violence cases at the Family Justice Center. Nearly 600 cases had to be dismissed because the statute of limitations had passed. How many more cases fit the profile at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse? "We do not have numbers from Wiley Manuel," Price said. "It is a large number. You have to do a manual count." Price says the problem is the case management system she inherited doesn’t track deadlines, forcing limited staff to review cases manually. Now, she has a plan to fix that. "We now have a plan that will involve especially assigning more district attorneys and staff and modifying the case management system in a way it had never been programmed to do," she said. I am dealing with a system where the people who have been working here for decades tell me that it is literally impossible to remedy the problem," Price said. The key takeaway here is the DA's office still doesn't know the extent of the backlog or how many cases may have fallen through the cracks, but they have started to rectify the situation. Although, they don't know how long that might take.
