A 5-year-old girl died after being struck by a vehicle in Yankton Tuesday morning (Oct. 15, 2024, 8:20am). The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members. Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a Chevy Silverado was reentering the roadway on east 19th Street near Mulberry Street at a four-way stop. At the same time, a 5-year-old child was crossing the street and was struck by the truck. The driver did not see the child. The child was transported to a Yankton hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
