MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The City Council voted to approve Mayor Paul Young's appointments to the Memphis Area Transit Authority board. Last week, Mayor Young decided to replace the previous members of MATA's board with new candidates. MATA consultant says agency needs to hire, not fire, drivers “This is a hard reset. We got some hard work to do over the next couple of months to really stabilize this organization and get it to the place where it is really serving the citizens in the manner they deserve,” Young said. Young offered a brief description of the new board members: Brandon Arrindale, Financial management  Cynthia Bailey, Community activist, works with bus rider union Emily Greer, HR manager  Sandi Klink, Knew her from his work with the housing community. She works with the Center for Independent Living  Brian Marflak, VP from FedEx, works in logistics planning  Jackson McNeil, Urban planner, works with local nonprofits and works in transportation-type planning Anna McQuiston, President of the development district in this area, brings regional lens  Dana Pointer, CEO of Preserve Partners, finance  Maya Siggers, attorney, private practice  On Monday, WREG spoke with Cynthia Bailey ahead of the council's vote. She said that she was excited to have the chance to make a difference in the city. ‘A change is coming,’ says new MATA board member "At first, I was like, ‘Oh my God! They’re actually looking into what we’ve been telling them all this time.’ But I was more so satisfied,” Bailey said. "Hold on, a change is coming. It’s going to be soon but it may not be tomorrow. But it’s going to change.” In addition to the new board members, the City Council also voted in favor of having MATA provide a budget update to them every quarter, rather than annually.
