SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The Bonaventure Historical Society will usher guests around the cemetery in two special tours where they will meet historic interpreters sharing the stories of some of the cemetery’s residents. “Having our costumed reenactors tell their life story brings Bonaventure to life in a very memorable way,” said Pat Alhouse, President of the Bonaventure Historical Society. “It's rather enchanting as you become immersed in the rich history of Savannah which encourages our guests to help in preserving the sacred burial ground of Bonaventure, as one of the last tangible reminders of the many lives lived and lost.” The tours will be Thursday, October 17, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, October 20, at 2 p.m. Both are 90 minutes long and include nine stops. The October 17 tour is $65, and the October 20th tour is $45. Bonaventure Historical Society members receive a 10% discount. Bonaventure Historical Society was created in 1992 by a retired Savannah school teacher and several of his friends. Our mission has always been the preservation and conservation of Savannah’s historic Bonaventure Cemetery. Tours will begin at the Bonaventure Visitor Center at 330 Bonaventure Road. Parking is available in the lot located right outside the cemetery gates. The route includes both paved and gravel walkways. Since the October 17th tour will occur during sunset, guests are encouraged to bring flashlights.
