TOPEKA (KSNT) - The Union Pacific (UP) Railroad's famous No. 4014 "Big Boy" engine will be arriving in Kansas this week to begin its journey through the Sunflower State. UP first announced its historic 1.2 million pound engine would be trekking across multiple states this year back in June. The railroad later released the full schedule for its engine in August, including its stops in the Sunflower State. The engine will arrive in Kansas on Oct. 15 in Coffeyville and depart the state on Oct. 21 at Sharon Springs as it heads on to its final stops in Colorado. Big Boy's full tour schedule for Kansas can be found below: Tuesday, Oct. 15 Coffeyville, KS 9 a.m. departure to Kansas City, MO. Osawatomie, KS at West Pacific Avenue Crossing. Arrives – 2:15 p.m. CT. Departs - 2:45 p.m. CT. Kansas City, MO at Union Station at 30 West Pershing Road. Arrives – 6:45 p.m. CT. Wednesday, Oct. 16 Kansas City, MO at 30 West Pershing Road. Viewing only. Thursday, Oct. 17 Kansas City, MO 9 a.m. departure to Salina, KS. Topeka, KS at the Great Overland Station at 701 North Kansas Avenue. Arrives – 12:15 p.m. CT. Departs – 12:45 p.m. CT. Friday, Oct. 18 Salina, KS at the Salina Depot at 400 North 13th Street. Viewing only. Saturday, Oct. 19 Salina, KS 9 a.m. departure to Hays, KS. Wilson, KS at Avenue E Crossing. Arrives – 11 a.m. CT. Departs - 11:30 a.m. CT. Sunday, Oct. 20 Hays, KS 9 a.m. departure to Sharon Springs, KS. Grainfield, KS at Main Street Crossing. Arrives – Noon CT. Departs – 12:30 p.m. CT. Monday, Oct. 21 Sharon Springs, KS 9 a.m. departure to Denver, CO. Strasburg, CO at Monroe Street Crossing. Arrives – 3:45 p.m. MT. Departs – 4:15 p.m. MT. Sean Zears with Shawnee County Parks + Recreation said people will need to stay 25 feet back from the engine when it arrives in Topeka while he was on the Fox 43 AM Live show. He said this is a UP rule to keep locals safe while the train is in the area. The locomotive was delivered to UP in 1941 and retired in 1961. It was later reacquired by the railroad in 2013 and moved to Cheyenne, WY where an extensive restoration process began.
