It will begin to feel more like fall later this week around Carson City and surrounding counties with a storm system arriving Wednesday that is expected to bring cooler temperatures and shower chances. Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing Thursday night into Friday morning, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a freeze watch. Until the cool down, it will be warm and dry Tuesday. With the cold front moving in Wednesday, cooler temperatures and breezy conditions are expected along with chances for showers, NWS forecasters said. A second system, expected to arrive Thursday into Friday, is forecast to bring snow showers to the high Sierra and sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 for rural valleys, including those in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Washoe and Storey counties, NWS forecasters said. Urban centers across western Nevada are expected to get down to 28-32 degrees overnight Thursday into Friday morning, according to the weather service, noting that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Forecasters advise people to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Stay tuned.
