It was a warm and calm weekend across the DMV, but as the wind started to pick up last night, it became clear Mother Nature was bringing a change to begin the new week. Blustery winds remain as a strong cold front crosses through, gusting up to 30-40 mph at times. These winds will continue through the end of the day as colder air rushes in from the north. Temperatures have fallen a few degrees, and the tumble will continue after leveling off for a few hours. Peak readings will be in the 60s and lower 70s to the east, but it's already chilly to the north and west, with readings staying in the 50s. It will get even colder tonight as it starts to calm down, with overnight lows in the 30s and lower 40s under partly cloudy skies. The massive trough that brought this shock to the system will linger across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic for much of the week. It will keep chilly air around on Tuesday and Wednesday, especially as it pushes a wave of clouds and a few showers through tomorrow. High temperatures to the west won't get out of the 40s, and they won't escape the 50s to the east, including in DC. Even though the sunshine will return on Wednesday, another round of breezy winds will keep the chilly temperatures locked in. Overnight lows will fall into the 30s for most Tuesday and Wednesday nights, leading to possible frost. The DC metro and points east of I-95 will be the only spots in the 40s. A strong area of high pressure will arrive on Thursday and not budge through the upcoming weekend, giving us plentiful sunshine and warmer temperatures each day. Highs will peak in the 60s on Thursday and Friday afternoon, with brisk 30s still likely at night under clear skies. By Saturday and Sunday, we'll feel the difference, with highs back in the 70s and lows up into the 40s and 50s, giving us a fantastic weekend. This quiet and bone-dry pattern doesn't look to end as we head into early next week. Have a great rest of your Monday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Partly cloudy and blustery.
