NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Today marks five years since the Hard Rock Hotel building collapsed, leaving three families mourning the loss of their loved ones. "I woke up this morning at about 6 and started watching the clock because 8:52 a.m. was the last time I got to talk to my brother," said Angela Magrette. Kenner hires trapper due to influx of coyotes and hogs It's a heartache that will never fade for Magrette, as she mourns the loss of her brother Anthony, five years after the Hard Rock Hotel collapse. "I know that I have to fight for his justice, is what keeps me going, because I just want to be with him," said Magrette. (Courtesy: Angela Magrette) Day after day, she says it's a constant battle. Photos of her brother lining the rooms of her home as she keeps a scrapbook of his fondest memories. She says they were inseparable. "My mom died when we were 15, so we kind of like, did it on our own. Like, we became who we were on our own. So for him to say that meant so much, and I miss him on that," said Magrette. But her proudest memory is seeing how happy he was the day she joined law enforcement. "There's a picture of me and how I'm on work with the sheriff's office, and he felt like it was holding him in front of a cop. He always told me how proud he was as a man. I mean, look at that. I remember him and say, I'm proud of you," said Magrette. Man sentenced to 65 years in Jefferson bank robbery case Magrette says Oct. 12 will never be forgotten. She even keeps in touch with the family members of the other victims. She says her brother Anthony, Jose Arreola, and Quinnyon Wimberly's names will continue to live on. "I'm going to keep pushing. I'm going to keep asking. I'm going to keep going in front of everybody. They are going to memorize our guys. Somehow I'm not going to let that go. I just want to make sure that everybody remembers what happened in the city of New Orleans five years ago today, " said Magrette. A memorial service for Anthony Magrette will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mel Ott Park on the West Bank.
