South Dakota State University Extension and South Dakota Humanities Scholar Molly Barari will host a creative life story writing workshop for genealogy lovers. The third and final workshop in the 2024 Heirlooms writing series will teach participants about genealogy writing. It will be held online via Zoom on Oct. 17, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. CDT/5:30 p.m. MT and last two hours. Participation in previous workshops is not required. To register for this free workshop, visit extension.sdstate.edu/events and search for “heirlooms”. A link to attend will be sent following registration. Technical support will be available before the workshop if needed. “This workshop is great for anyone who has a working knowledge of their family history and wants to write the stories of their ancestors,” said Leacey E. Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist. During the workshop, Barari will help participants learn how to write family histories. She and Brown hope participants will be inspired to write pieces of South Dakota history that can be passed down as family heirlooms. Participants should come prepared to write and share their writing in these highly interactive workshops. Adults of all ages are welcome to attend. Barari, who holds a doctorate in education and a master’s in creative writing, began collaborating with Brown in 2021 to offer the Heirlooms writing series. Their efforts have expanded access to South Dakotans living outside the Black Hills region. For more information about the instructor, visit www.mollybarari.com. This program was made possible by the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
