FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Councilmember Nelson Esparza is inviting the community to celebrate the Fresno City Hall's fourth annual Indigenous Peoples' Day celebration. According to Esparza, every year, residents gather on this day at the City Hall to acknowledge the rich history of the city's indigenous communities. During this year's celebration, the Picayune Rancheria of the Chuckchansi Indians will be recognized for "their historic contributions to the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada." Organizers say the celebration will feature a drum performance by Sacred Circle, a color guard presentation by Indigenous Warrior Flag Group, and a poem presentation by Christian Soronda. They say several indigenous-based organizations will be also attending the event to provide resources. The celebration will be hosted at the Fresno City Hall's Front Plaza at 2600 Fresno St. from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 14.
