INDIANAPOLIS — A man is dead and police are searching for answers after a late-night shooting on Indy's near south side on Thursday. Neighbors say they heard the gunshots but they don't know what led to the violence. Police also had very few details about exactly what happened overnight. A front window was shattered after a bullet left a large hole in the glass at the Garfield Parkside Townhomes. The shooting ended with one man dead. The victim's identity is still pending from the coroner's office. IMPD said they were first called just after 11 p.m. Thursday to Park Haven Way just south of Garfield Park. When officers arrived they found one man inside the home with a gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to the hospital where he died a short time later. Police admitted overnight they didn't have much information and could not say what motivated the shooting or who was responsible for the killing. "It's too early in the investigation to tell because we don't know what happened here yet. I can tell you there was no forced entry into the residence, but that's all I got right now. Not a lot to go on," said IMPD Captain Don Weilhammer. Police reports show a 61-year-old man lived in the apartment where the shooting took place. That man wasn't hurt, but otherwise, the report offered very little information. His family told me he was questioned by police and later released in the morning. They insist they're not sure who pulled the trigger. Police are still asking for the public's help to hold the shooter accountable and solve the case. Because the complex where the homicide took place is relatively new, there has not been a history of violence on the property. No arrests have been made and police did not have any detailed suspect information to release. Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Kyle Hoover at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or email the detective at [email protected].  Alternatively, they can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
