CHARLESTON, S.C.(WCBD) – Two devastating hurricanes in the span of two weeks. So many communities in the southeast are left reeling, but a few good people made the situation a little bit better. As upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene, help continues to pour into the hard-hit areas. A huge thank you goes out to UNITS of Charleston for helping News 2 hold a supply drive, giving us a place to store the donations for Helene’s victims. The UNITS team immediately dropped off four container units, eventually five, with no questions asked. “They didn’t ask why, where, what, they just said, “When do you need them and what time do we need to be there,” Storm Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Rob Fowler said.   UNITS then took it a step further by delivering all the collected supplies to the upstate at no charge. “Not only did they bring those units, just like that when we needed them, they also picked them up full of supplies. Seventy-five thousand pounds, 37 and a half tons of supplies for Helene victims, and they have taken those to Chesnee where those supplies are already being distributed as we speak,” Fowler explained. “The gravity of it is just unbelievable,” said Mount Pleasant businesswoman Mallory Dunn. Dunn has seen firsthand the devastation in western North Carolina. Dunn helped fill trucks and trailers full of supplies to help people in Weaverville, Brunsville and Spruce Pine, taking it to citizens this week. American Legion Post 179 in Charleston also collected items for the citizens in western North Carolina. By land or air, the Lowcountry delivers.
