A school bus taking students home after classes in Chester County was hit by gunfire on Thursday, Chester County District Attorney’s Office said. Léelo en español aquí The bus was struck by two bullets around 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2024, as it carried students from the Intermediate High School and Senior High School of the Coatesville Area School District, officials said. No one on the bus was hurt in the shooting, according to officials. “We have spoken with the students who were on the bus to check on their well-being and will continue to stay in close communication with their families, offering full support services as needed,” Coatesville Area School District superintendent Dr. Van Vooren said in a statement. “We would also like to express our gratitude to the Krapf school bus driver and the first responders for their quick and professional response to this situation.” “No child should be subjected to gunfire on a school bus,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. In response to the incident, the school district said that both schools will be operating on what they called a Flexible Instruction Day on Friday, Oct. 11. Out of an abundance of caution, the football game between Downingtown High School East and Coatesville Area High School was also canceled. In an announcement on Facebook, the Downingtown Area School District said that a makeup date will be decided in the future. The Coatesville City Police Department is investigating with the Chester County Detectives. The school district’s superintendent said they are working with area police during the investigation.
