AUSTIN (KXAN) — It's giving 2018 vibes -- the race for Texas' U.S. Senate seat is posting record-breaking fundraising numbers. And like 2018, the candidate driving those record-breaking numbers is a Democrat. Back in 2018, it was Beto O'Rourke. This time, it's U.S. Rep. Colin Allred fueling the fundraising frenzy. MORE: Campaign Context Allred's campaign announced he raised over $30 million in the third quarter of 2024. Incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz said he raised over $21 million in Q3 over his three fundraising entities. Allred's campaign has raised more than $68.7 million since the start of the Senate race. Tallying up all his fundraising accounts, Cruz's team has taken in over $40 million in campaign donations. The question now -- will record-breaking fundraising translate to a win for Democrats in 2024? For O'Rourke in 2018, more money didn't equal more votes. Cruz bested O'Rourke in 2018, earning a second term by 2.6 percentage points. The most recent The Hill/Emerson College poll released in late last month put Cruz 4 percentage points ahead of Allred with a 3.1% margin of error. Election Day is less than four weeks away.
