CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Big Brothers Big Sisters Rhode Island hosted its inaugural Big Breakfast Thursday morning at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. The event served as a fundraiser for the non-profit while also highlighting some of the volunteers who have helped make an impact on the organization and the state. Big Brothers Big Sisters works to pair youth with mentors to offer them a positive role model and new opportunities. However, there has continually been a large shortage of male volunteers. When ABC6 first reported on the need for male volunteers, there were nearly 200 boys on the waiting list for a mentor. However, there are now 350 boys in Rhode Island that are waiting to be paired with a male volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find out more information here.
