Lexington, Ky. (ABC 36 News Now) — An undeniable bond between a boy and his namesake, a horse that now carries on his legacy. Now, the story of Cody’s Wish is set to hit the big screen and book stores. “They they told us the odds of him living past 2 was, they just said he wouldn’t live past 2,” recalled Kelly Dorman, Cody’s father of his son’s survival rate. About six years ago, Cody Dorman, a child who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome was granted a wish and invited to Make A Wish Day at Keeneland. “We got chosen to go to Gainsborough Farm, nobody’s seen this coming, nobody expect to even, Godolphin and, Cody’s Wish was different when he came out of the stall,” recalls Kelly. Cody’s Wish the thoroughbred was then named after Cody Dorman, creating a bond that brought them even closer. “Every single race we were at, Cody’s wish would look for Cody in the paddock,” he added. Cody Dorman passed away in November of last year just one day after Cody’s wish won his second Breeder’s Cup race. While Cody may no longer be here physically, his legacy lives on not only through Cody’s Wish, but also The Cody Dorman Legacy Fund with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “I know he’s smiling from heaven, one thing he loved as much as anything, as much as that horse, is knowing that he was part of helping grant other kids wishes,” said Kelly. The Dorman’s are thrilled to help give back and share the story of their son and his best friend with the rest of the world. “I’m gonna be producing the movie Cody’s Wish, and, to say we’re honored is an understatement. The past 6 months, we’ve had the joy of getting to know The Dorman’s and becoming closer with the entire team and family around the story, and it’s been a real privilege,” said Warren Ostergard, who is producing the upcoming film. The movie will brought into the big screen and a book is also being written. Kelly adding, “I’ve always felt like if you can make a positive impact on one person in your lifetime, you you can probably consider it a can say a success and he’s done it into the billions.” Jeff Celentano will be directing the film, “everything about this story from the day Cody was born was meant to be.” Big Ass Fans made an inaugural donation of $10,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation’s brand-new Cody Dorman Legacy Wish Fund.
