BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A local store in Baton Rouge has announced it will be closing soon. According to a social media post, Belli will be closing on Thursday, Oct. 31. The neighborhood store said on social media, "We are sad to announce we will be closing down our location Oct. 31." The grocery store tried to close on Jan. 31 but chose to stay open after the community showed continuous support. Belli owner, Kristen Guarisco, said when she announced the closing in January, customers reached out, volunteered, made donations and even created a GoFundMe. Her plan was to expand the grocery section to have healthy local produce, eggs, dairy, chicken and beef. Baton Rouge is getting another Waffle House. See where, when "Of course, we operated as a cafe, but our main goal was building a community. In the end, our plan for this location isn't working as we thought it would," the post stated. "However, we know that we accomplished our goal of building the most beautiful community. We are so deeply saddened by this closing, but we are so grateful for all of the support and friendships made along the way." According to the post, Belli will have a flash sale starting Thursday, Oct. 24 until close. Guarisco plans to use the store's social media accounts to publish content related to cooking tips and recipes after the closing of the store. Belli first opened on Spanish Town Road in May 2023. Before being named Belli, the location served as Capitol Grocery starting in 1914.
