BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — BREC and Build Baton Rouge have partnered to create the Erie Street Eco Park in Baton Rouge.
The Erie Street Eco Park is a project from the "Imagine Plank Road Plan for Equitable Development," which aims to restore the Plank Road corridor through community-based design, increased green space and improved health outcomes.
The Eco Park is located in North Baton Rouge at 3069 Plank Road.
"And so this park is not just a beautiful green space, and of course, we need more beautiful green spaces here," said East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston-Broome at the groundbreaking event held on Oct. 1. "It's a symbol of what we're doing across the entire Plank Road corridor. The revitalization of Plank Road is about more than just infrastructure. It's about restoring hope and opportunity to a community that has long been waiting for change."
The Erie Street Eco Park is a joint effort with funding from BREC, Build BR, the JPMorgan Chase Advancing Cities Initiative and Republic Services through a Rebuilding Together BR grant. According to BREC, the $275,000 will support the design and construction of the green space.

"The Erie Street Eco Park will become a cornerstone in the revitalization efforts for this historically significant corridor, offering residents a new space to gather, relax and enjoy their community," BREC said.
