(KRON) -- Tropicana Las Vegas was demolished early Wednesday morning, making way for a proposed baseball stadium for the Athletics. The Tropicana implosion happened at around 2:30 a.m. on the Las Vegas strip, with the A’s logo lighting up the sky as both hotel towers came down. Both towers of the 67-year-old hotel came down in about 22 seconds. Over 2,000 pounds of explosives were used. Before the implosion, a drone light show and a fireworks show lit up the sky while Frank Sinatra’s “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” played in the background. Fisher thanked both the city and the state for moving the ballpark proposals forward and presented Bally Sports with an Athletics jersey while saying he was excited about the team’s future. The proposed $1.5 billion ballpark will have 33,000 seats, with hopes it will be completed by 2028. In July, the Athletic’s’ executives said the stadium would be financed in three parts. Nevada taxpayers would pay about $350 million, debt financing would contribute another $300 million, and Fisher would pay the remaining $850 million. The demolition came about two weeks since the team’s final game at the Oakland Coliseum. Until the Las Vegas stadium is built, the A’s will be playing at a Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.
