Crews arrived and observed an evacuation in progress, confirming that fire and smoke were coming from a balcony in the building.
After fighting the fire and making sure everyone had evacuated, they got the fire under control by 12:50 a.m. Initial assessments suggested that the fire originated on an exterior balcony on the third floor of the complex.
One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation on scene and was released without transport. Two occupied apartments could not be re-occupied that night due to fire damage. The WFD Fire Prevention Division determined the fire to be accidental, and could not rule out smoking as a contributing factor.
