The Fort Pierre City Council will hold a public hearing next month on an ordinance regulating the height of some residential buildings. Current ordinance sets a limit for most residential buildings at 2.5 stories or 35 feet in height, but two-family homes are limited to 2 stories or 25 feet in height. Michael and Gwen Elliot have purchased lots in the Compton’s Cove Addition of Fort Pierre, and would like to combine lots 11 and 12 into one (11R). Elliot has read through Fort Pierre’s 2016-2036 Comprehensive Plan and says what they want to do with their lots aligns with the goals. https://media-cdn.socastsrm.com/wordpress/wp-content/blogs.dir/2626/files/2024/10/100924-elliot1.mp3 Elliot says he could build homes that comply with the city ordinance, but he doesn’t think the neighbors would be happy about it. https://media-cdn.socastsrm.com/wordpress/wp-content/blogs.dir/2626/files/2024/10/100924-elliot2.mp3 Scott Schweitzer owns land near the two lots the Elliots want to build on. He urged city council members to review Fort Pierre’s Comprehensive Plan before making a decision. https://media-cdn.socastsrm.com/wordpress/wp-content/blogs.dir/2626/files/2024/10/100924-elliot3.mp3 The Fort Pierre City Council set Nov. 4 as the public hearing date for Ordinance 1073. It will be held during a regularly scheduled Council meeting.
