BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — According to a federal lawsuit, in January 2023 then-16-year-old T’Niyah Bass was detained by Baton Rouge Police after being at a house on Cadillac Street that was under surveillance and later the subject of a search warrant. "There is no evidence that supports that she was involved in a crime," said attorney Ryan Thompson. Bass claims she was shackled and patted down after being transported to the Fourth District Police station to go to the bathroom. She was returned to the Cadillac Street location, where she says she was placed in a police cruiser for more than two hours. She said she was taken to the now-closed Brave Cave, was forced to remove her clothing and was strip-searched by a male officer. Bass was later released and not charged with a crime. The original plaintiff, Jeremy Lee, was taken to the Brave Cave the same day and claims to have been beaten and illegally strip-searched. Lee challenged BRPD’s strip search policy and a federal judge ruled it unconstitutional in July. “That policy, as written, which has been deemed unconstitutional, is a major step as we litigate this case," said Thompson.
