NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Tuesday marked a major day in the election season with in-person early voting starting and mail-in ballots being sent out. The New Mexico Secretary of State's Office said no cases have been reported in New Mexico yet to influence the election but are cautious after there was an incident in another state earlier this year. “At least in one instance, the main one that people might be aware of in New Hampshire earlier this year, when President Biden's voice was cloned, basically, to deliver misinformation about an election that they were having,” said Curtas. The New Mexico Secretary of State's Office is in the middle of its own campaign to combat misinformation with billboards and ads. “We want to make sure people understand about this advertising campaign that we have out there right now trying to raise awareness about AI-manipulated media,” said Curtis. They say to have a vigilant eye. “Just things if you see images like AI manipulated images often have a very smooth, too perfect kind of look to them,” said Curtas.
