Shoregate Towers has been put in foreclosure and a receiver has been appointed to help fix declining conditions at the apartment complex in Willowick, according to court documents. At a scheduled change of hearing before Willoughby Municipal Court Judge Marisa Cornachio on Oct. 8, it was recommended the defendant, Lemma Getachew, cannot legally make any fixes at the buildings anymore and several charges were dismissed at cost to him. Since the collapse of the parking deck of the East Tower of Shoregate Towers in August 2023, Willowick has filed additional criminal charges with the Willoughby Municipal Court. According to Willowick Mayor Michael Vanni, the most recent charges were filed on Sept. 5 and Sept.  7, 2023, regarding rubbish accumulation, balcony guards, infestation and elevators through the buildings. An original plea of not guilty was entered in December by Getachew.
