DORCHESTER, Mass. (WWLP) - A New Bedford man has become the fifth $1 million prize winner in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s JAWS instant ticket game. Why flags are flying at half-staff in Massachusetts on Tuesday The game, which launched on March 26, has quickly become popular among lottery players across the state. Bacilio Gomez of New Bedford chose to receive a one-time payment of $650,000, before taxes after claiming his prize on October 1st. Gomez says he plans on buying a new home with his prize. The ticket was purchased at M & M Convenience on Rockdale Ave. in New Bedford. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for the sale of this ticket. The JAWS instant ticket game still has one remaining grand prize of $1 million to be claimed. In addition to the instant prize, the game features Second Chance Drawings. So far, four such drawings have taken place, awarding six winners with JAWS-inspired trips for two to Martha’s Vineyard scheduled for the summer of 2025. These trips include a special game show event where one participant is guaranteed to win an additional $1 million prize, while other contestants will receive prizes ranging from $500 to $10,000. Trip winners are selected randomly from non-winning tickets submitted into the Second Chance Drawings.
