AM Headlines: Refreshing Forecast Fringe Impacts from Milton Coolest Mornings Late Week Sunny Weekend Discussion: Cold front has pushed south of the area leaving us with a cool and dry forecast today. Clouds will thin with sunny skies and highs reaching the mid 70s — near average for this time of year. But, it will feel much more refreshing with the drop in humidity. Although Milton will not have any direct impacts to our forecast, it will lead to some clouds and an increase in wind for areas south of I-85 Wednesday into Thursday. This is due to the strong pressure gradient with high pressure over the Carolinas and low pressure over Florida. As Milton moves over Florida it will pull cooler air from the north into the region leading to a drop in temps late week. Lows will fall into the 30s and 40s across the area. It will stay sunny and dry, but temps will warm slightly this weekend back into the upper 70s to lower 80s. Latest on Milton: It has undergone eyewall replacement which has lead to a slight drop in intensity and a larger eye wall. This means an expanded wind field. It is now a category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 155 mph and a central pressure of 924 mb. It will slightly strengthen back into a category 5 hurricane, but as it moves into a higher shear and drier environment it will likely make landfall as a category 4 hurricane late Wednesday night.
