Golisano Children's Hospital ranks top 50 on national list

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Golisano Children's Hospital has earned recognition as one of the nation's best children's hospitals in three specialty categories.
US World & News Report ranks the best children's hospitals every year. Golisano Children's Hospital made the top 50 for the treatment of preemie babies, kidney disorders, and children's mental health.
This is the first time the report has included psychiatry departments.
Officials with Golisano attribute a big part of their success to the newly opened Brighter Days Urgent Care, which supports kids going through mental health crises.
"The majority of children in crisis need someone to meet with the child, meet with the family, help figure out what's going on, but it doesn't have to be in a psychiatric emergency room," Golisano Psychiatrist-in-Chief Michael Scharf said. "What we're able to provide now is a family-friendly, youth-centered walk-in service where people can figure out their crisis before it escalates to that worst-case scenario."
Rankings are determined by measures such as patient safety, infection prevention and adequacy of nurse staffing.
