WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Washington Capitals are celebrating their 50th anniversary, and they have a lineup of special events planned for the new NHL season, including bringing back some of their former players to celebrate with fans. The celebration starts with the Washington Capitals “50 Fest” on Thursday. The team will bring out the entire 2024-2025 roster and more than 60 former players at the festival. Third Eye Blind will also perform a concert. All fans in attendance will receive a commemorative 50th-anniversary t-shirt. Tickets for the 50 Fest are $19.74, a nod to their debut season in the NHL in 1974. Fans can also catch the free alumni game at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Friday. Washington Capitals announce new partnership with TikTok, unveil new jersey Finally, Saturday is the home opener, featuring a red carpet and pregame ceremony. Fans will have the opportunity to enjoy street tacos, elote or chicken and waffles at the Ultra Club. “When we’re looking at these dishes in particular—what do fans want?” said Capital One Arena executive chef Steven Haughie. “We wanted to give that as the highlight to the Cap's 50th to basically elevate that level of experience here at Capital One Arena.” Fans can also sport the commemorative 50th-anniversary jersey. The team will wear the jerseys at six home games. Throughout the season, the team will give fans 50th-anniversary promotional items, including bobbleheads, pennants, hats and more.
