SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield man was arrested on Sunday after a loaded ghost gun was seized. Governor Healey implements new Massachusetts gun law According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers were sent to the 500 block of Worthington Street at 12:25 a.m. for a gun call. With a description of the suspect, officers were able to locate the suspect and seized a loaded firearm that was in his waistband, which was determined to be a ghost gun. The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Jeremiah Cruz of Springfield and was charged with: Carrying a Firearm without a License Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License Springfield Police Department What is a Ghost Gun? Ghost guns are assembled with parts that can be bought online and are shipped to buyers nearly built, and easily able to put together the remaining parts. The kits lack serial numbers, which is why they are called “ghost guns,” and are nearly impossible for officials to trace. So far this year, Springfield Police Officers have seized more than 270 illegal firearms, including 15 ghost guns.
