Charlamagne tha God is speaking out against what he describes as "lies created by the GOP" surrounding the federal government's response to Hurricane Helene. "It's actually nuts that at a time like this, FEMA has to take the time to debunk lies created by the GOP," Charlamagne tha God said Monday of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on "The Breakfast Club." "I know it's election season, but everything can't be politicized. This is a natural disaster," the 46-year-old radio host said.  Charlamagne's comments came after FEMA last week launched a "rumor response" page in a bid to combat misinformation about Helene, which killed at least 215 people and is the deadliest hurricane to hit the mainland United States since Katrina.  "People are dead. People are hurt. People are injured. People need help. It don't matter if they're Democrat, it don't matter if they're Republican," Charlamagne, who was born Lenard McKelvey, told listeners. On Friday, a day after former President Trump claimed that disaster relief funding was all spent on migrants, the White House slammed Republicans for "peddling bald faced lies" about the response to Helene.  Some GOP leaders and "their partners in rightwing media," White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said in a memo, "are using Hurricane Helene to lie and divide us." Charlamagne added to the chorus of criticism, saying Monday that the focus should be on relief efforts, regardless of political party. "Just figure out how to help them. I don't like when they use that and politicize it and weaponize it just to get at their political opponents," the media personality and "Get Honest or Die Lying" author said. "That's whack."
