PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WCMH) -- Police said they have found human remains in Portsmouth along the Ohio River. According to the Portsmouth Police Department, police responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. when a citizen called and said they had found human remains. When patrol officers responded to the scene, just east of Shawnee State University, they said they discovered a deceased individual at the Ohio River's edge. The body has been given to the Scioto County Coroner's Office for an autopsy. At this time, police said the body is in an advanced state of decomposition and has not been identified. Portsmouth police ask any agencies with missing persons reports to contact them, especially if they have connections to the Ohio River. Anyone who may have information is asked to call Portsmouth police at 740-353-4101 or the detective bureau at 740-354-1600.
