The delay in construction for the parking garage at Canyons may be an opportunity for our community. If it is possible, the Planning Commission and the County Council should get Vail Resorts and its development partners to agree to provide a large public locker room with affordable season-long rentals at the site.Transporting gear, riding the bus in hard-shell boots, and storing a sack lunch or a dry pair of gloves can be an obstacle for locals who would like to take public transit. These challenges are exponentially tougher for families with small kids. Having a nice locker room at this transit hub would allow folks to ride the bus in their sneakers and make the experience much more pleasant and convenient. If we can encourage more folks to ride the bus by making it more convenient, it will take pressure off of traffic and parking.Locker rooms like this are common amenities at many ski resorts and are always popular and well-used. That we don’t have one at Canyons is an oddity, especially with our community’s commitment to public transit and the size of the base area.Let’s take advantage of the construction at the base of the Cabriolet to add this amenity and to do so in a way that is large-scale and world-class, in keeping with the scale of the resort and our community’s ambitious sustainability goals.Joe NewcombPinebrookThe post Locker room would be nice appeared first on Park Record.
