SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- After Birch Aquarium closed temporarily to prepare to transform its Hall of Fishes exhibit into Living Seas, the aquarium has now reopened to the public with three brand new experiences. Visitors can once again visit Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego as it reopened Friday, Oct. 4 following a four-day closure. Birch Aquarium to transform Hall of Fishes into new exhibit The entire aquarium was closed from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 while staff worked to prepare the existing Hall of Fishes exhibit for renovation into the future Living Seas exhibition. Earlier in September, Birch Aquarium’s Animal Care Team relocated its Giant Pacific Octopus and rescued Loggerhead Sea Turtle, among other animals, to temporary homes in preparation. One of the new exhibits, Embodied Pacific: Ocean Unseen, opened Friday. The immersive project features about 70 exhibitions by 30 artists and is included with General Admission. 5 things to do in San Diego this weekend to kick off October The other newly opened experience at the aquarium is Riveropolis, an interactive water play area for all ages. It is now open at Blue Beach. Finally, visitors can see and learn about coral first hand at the aquarium's Coral Classroom. It is now open in the West Classroom, and is accessible through Blue Beach. San Diego museums offer free admission for kids in October The aquarium will remain open while crews work on the new Living Seas exhibition, which will take visitors on a journey along the West Coast to uncover the wonders of the Pacific Ocean through viewing windows, digital displays, and immersive projections.
