Two drivers killed in separate Northshore crashes

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Two people are dead following unrelated fatal crashes that occurred on the Northshore on Thursday, Oct. 3.
According to the Louisiana State Police, around 3:45 p.m., troopers with Troop L responded to a crash on Louisiana Highway 1064 near Durbin Road in Tangipahoa Parish.
The initial investigation showed that 55-year-old Albert Johnson Jr., of Albany, was eastbound on Highway 1064 in a 2011 Nissan Altima when, for reasons that are still being investigated, the Altima went off the right side of the roadway and hit a tree.

Johnson was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was declared dead at the scene. Routine toxicology samples were taken from Johnson for analysis. The crash is still under investigation.
The second crash occurred on Louisiana Highway 21 near Cleland Street in St. Tammany Parish.
Troopers with Troop L were reportedly notified of the two-vehicle crash around 10 p.m.
Their initial investigation showed that 35-year-old Glenn Wells, of Bogalusa, was driving northbound on Highway 21 in a 2006 Nissan Sentra while a 2015 GMC Canyon was traveling Southbound.

For reasons that are still being investigated, the Nissan crossed the centerline and hit the GMC head on.
Wells was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC was properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. He was taken to a local hospital.
Routine toxicology samples were taken from both drivers as part of the ongoing investigation.
