Man arrested, accused of reckless driving in fatal Independence crash

INDEPENDENCE, La. (WGNO) — A woman is dead and a man arrested after a crash in Independence, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28. TPSO deputies say they were called to the scene of a crash in the 54000 block of N. Larussa Lane.

An investigation revealed that 45-year-old Antonio Reyes Carcamo was driving down the street in a Ford Expedition when he attempted to make a left turn but reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

Deputies say he hit a tree causing the truck to flip over.
In total, six people were in Carcamo's car. Five of them suffered varying levels of injuries.
23-year-old Marisol Carcamo Vargas died on the scene, according to TPSO deputies.
Once released, from the hospital, Carcamo will face charges of vehicular homicide driving while intoxicated and reckless operation of a vehicle.

The investigation remains ongoing with additional charges pending according to deputies.
