BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A local business owner is calling for more mental health facilities after his largest window was destroyed back in September. Crews were putting up a new window at the Guarantee Shoe store on Chester Avenue and 21st Street Thursday morning. The window replacement was necessary after vandals destroyed the large, north-facing window the night of September 18th. KFHC and CBCC to host No-Cost Mammogram Day for members Owner Rosco Rollnick tells us nothing was stolen, but isn't the first time this has happened. Vandals have broken the store's windows about seven times within the past two years, something that was relatively rare until now. "We've been in business 71 years," said Rollnick. "Prior to this, we've had two broken windows. All those years--almost 70 years, there's been nothing and now, all of a sudden, there's been a rash of it. It's just a couple people that have some mental problems, I would like to think." Rollnick says each window sets him back a couple grand every time one is destroyed, but also understands the police can't watch every window.
