GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - It's a prime chance for Green Bay to show off its cheese and old-fashioned cocktails ahead of the NFL draft next April all while giving back to the community. The Green Bay Packers, the NFL, and the nonprofit GENYOUth announced the first-ever 'Taste of the Draft' event scheduled for April 23 (the day before the draft begins in Green Bay). It's modeled after the 'Taste of the NFL' event that has been held each year during Super Bowl weekend. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell joined Packers president Mark Murphy for the announcement. "I can't think of a better place to start that program because they're going to get a taste here in Green Bay," said Goodell. "Anybody who has been to a tailgate party here in Green Bay knows you're going to get a good taste when you come here." It's from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Schreiber Foods headquarters (they're the presenting sponsor) in downtown Green Bay. TV personality and professional chef Andrew Zimmern will host the event and it will include entertainment and appearances by Packers players like LeRoy Butler. It will also feature the finest food Wisconsin has to offer from supper clubs around the state. "I think it'll be a nod to the full supper club experience from relish trays to after-dinner drinks," said Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy. "Old fashioned cocktails, those will be a part of it." Net proceeds from the event will help an organization called GENYOUth fight food insecurity in Wisconsin schools. Representatives from the organization said that one in six Wisconsin children lives with food insecurity and that nearly half of Wisconsin students qualify for free or reduced-price school meals based on household incomes. "To help to expand access to those healthy meals among the kids that need them most," said GENYOUth CEO Ann Marie Krautheim when asked why this program is so important. "School meals are the healthiest meals that kids are eating, fruit vegetables, milk dairy, whole grains."  For information on how to purchase tickets to the event please click here. There are just over 200 days left until the NFL draft begins in Green Bay. "The tradition and history that comes from Green Bay and the impact that it has on the NFL," said Goodell. "Honestly, I can't think of a better place to have the draft. Do it Green Bay style, do it the way you believe in it. It makes such a difference." "I'm a bit biased, but I think it will be the best draft ever," said Murphy. "With our history, tradition and Lambeau Field, it's going to be something special."
