RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- VCUarts Theatre will open its 2024-2025 season with the Tony Award-winning choroepoem, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf." Performances of "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf" will run from Thursday, Oct. 3 to Sunday, Oct. 6 at the W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts. According to VCUarts, the historic piece explores the triumphs and challenges of growing up as a Black girl in America. It is about self-discovery, self-affirmation and embracing the journey from childhood to womanhood. The piece is directed by Tawnya Pettiford-Wates, PHD and is said to be a narrative of survival and femininity through the use of poetry, music and dance. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased online, in-person or by calling 804-828-2020. The box office is now cashless, so tickets must be purchased with a debit or credit card. Discounts are available for students and the VCU community. VCUarts Theatre alumni can book two complimentary tickets in advance. The box office opens one hour before performances and seating opens up 30 minutes before the performances start.
